Potentially Dangerous Toys And Imitation Babies' Dummies - Choking Hazard Because Of Small Parts

Potentially dangerous toys and imitation babies' dummies are being sold by street traders in the county, West Sussex County Council Trading Standards Service warned today. It advises parents to prevent their children from using them.

· The toys are in the form of battery operated dancing and yapping animals and are a potential choking hazard because of small parts.

· The imitation dummies are the style of normal dummies, but have flashing multi-coloured lights and a coloured cord – they are not intended for use as a dummy, but could be mistaken for one.

Patrick Bligh-Cheesman, Head of Trading Standards, said: These items have been imported from the Far East. Neither the dancing animals or the imitation dummies comply with UK standards and are being sold illegally. In cases where our Officers have found them on sale, they have been seized and will be destroyed.

David Dewdney, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Community Services, with responsibility for Trading Standards, said: These sort of toys and imitation dummies can present significant risk to children.
