Two babies makes the budget stretch.
Recently my son and his wife had twins. The joy experienced when these babies entered this world was wondrous. I floated on air for several days. I was a grandmother to twins. Then the reality of having two babies at once, came into focus for us all.
Although my son and his wife were prepared for twins it still presented some logistics. Babies require a lot of stuff. Now there were two, and two of everything had to be obtained. When they learned they were expecting twins, they had already purchased for a single baby many of the articles and another had to be added.
An example of this was a baby jogger. My daughter had bought a single jogger as a gift for them, in preperation of the birth. Now there was going to be two, so off she went and returned the single and bought a double. I had said I would buy them a stroller for the babies, so when the time came I bought a tandem double stroller of the type and model they wanted.
They had to go and buy another crib to make sure there was one for each of the coming babies. Although they slept for the first few months in one crib they soon transferred to their own. The double list continued. Double car seats, double high chairs the list went on. Instead of having to add one of everything to their budget it was two.
One of the single most expenses was diapers. They opted to purchase diapers rather have a diaper service, again double duty. The diaper bill increased their budget a lot. Having two babies was costing a lot more than they originally figured on when they decided to have a family.
Then came clothes. At the baby shower, which was held after they were born so people could see them, there was two of everything. These babies were going to be well clothed for the next few months. As one of the grandmothers I was delighted with all that they received. I knew what they were facing dollar wise.
My son confided with me one day have two babies was a real burden on the budget and although it was hard sometimes they were managing. As the twins began to grow they needed new clothes, then came shoes. Everything is double. These babies, as much as they were welcomed loved and enjoyed are expensive. The family helps where we can and the twins are delightful and we all enjoy every day that they grow. Yes twins are double of every single thing.
My son and his wife have learned how to budget this increase and plan accordingly to their growth spurts and the new clothes and shoes. They are on top of it though.
