Baby Carriages and Prams – Old Style Meets New Style
There’s quite a trendy swing these days towards retro – back to the good old days, when life was simple. And that trend has stretched to baby strollers as well. Actually, it wasn’t until the mid to late 60s that a smaller means of transportation for babies was desired. Even when what is now known as the umbrella stroller was invented, back then, it was called the Baby Buggy.
The original MacLaren Baby Buggy was invented as a more convenient method of baby transportation, improving on the English pram. And it’s popularity proved that it was a step in the right direction – at least, it was a direction that made most parents happy.
Some parents want the good old days back
As more developments are made in industry and technology, and more progress is made in offering consumer products that make our lives easier, there are still many people who like to buy products the way they used to be. And parents who prefer the carriages and prams of the good old days fall right into this category.
The original prams and carriages obviously did the job for parents during their long reign as the king of transportation for babies and infants. They worked fine then. It’s just that modern parents needed more convenience to keep up with today’s fast-paced lifestyle.
But what they gained in convenience, perhaps they gave up in comfort. There’s no question that today’s baby strollers are made to be very comfortable and very safe but, for some parents, there’s nothing like the original. So they prefer the larger carriages and prams available on the market today.
Baby stroller manufacturers haven’t missed the retro trend
In their quest for the best in convenience, comfort and safety for parents and their children, baby product manufacturers have recognized that some parents like the old style baby carriages and prams. So, not missing a beat (as usual), they came up with modern replicas of the old prams and carriages that were the standard for years.
For example, the Inglesina Classic Pram is handmade in Italy, creating the classic styling and color of the old pram. It comes in the standard Navy color, or you can add white trim to the Navy, if you like. You’ll find it’s made pretty well the same as the old prams used to be, with a wooden frame body, and chrome highlights. The rear 16” wheels and the front 14” wheels all have buggy-style balloon tires.
Then there’s the Inglesina Vittoria Baby Carriage, featuring a reversible bed, so baby can watch Mommy, or watch where they’re going. It has a foot-operated safety brake, and a backrest that adjusts so the baby can either lie down or sit up. With most of today’s conventional strollers, the baby can’t comfortable lie down – only recline.
And if you really the oldies, but goodies, check out the 2004 British Modern Classic Strollers from Silver Cross. You’ll find these great models being pushed around by some of the most famous movie stars, like Gwyneth Paltrow, Catherine Zeta Jones, Sarah Jessica Parker and Celine Dion. You just know that the stars only like the best, so this a line to be checked out!
The legacy of baby carriages and prams lives on
Carriages and prams are one baby product that’ll never die. There are so many parents who just like their look. And because they’re versatile for themselves and their babies, they’ll continue to be a product that parents will always look for.
