Two types of child safety gates:
Pressure mounted: Easy to set up and take down. No drilling of holes or anchors. The gate will tighten between two solid wall surfaces to block passage. These work well between doors and hallways where there is solid wood construction. Not to be used at the top or bottom of stairs as they cannot withstand as much pressure.
Hardware mounted: This type of child safety gate is mounted with screws attached directly into a solid wall or wood post. This provides the maximum strength and protection for you children. They have an integral swing-stop mechanism to prevent gates from swings out over the stairwell. The gate should also have no fix horizontal bar on the bottom that can cause a tripping hazard.
