Keeping Parents Sane – Baby Swings, Walkers & Baby Bouncers

When baby is on the move, you don’t need to be! Parents need all the help they can get with a healthy active baby. Wait until you hear what is available to assist you.

Look into purchasing a baby swing, baby walker or a baby bouncer. These handy little items will free up more time to get things done, while keeping baby safe and secure. It is still important to keep an eye on baby at all times.

Baby swings, baby walkers and baby bouncers each operate differently, but serve the same purpose – a safe place to hold baby for a short period of time. Parents need all the help they can get!

Baby swings:

Babies by nature – love to rock. The gentle swaying of the swing often calms an upset baby fast and many times puts them to sleep. Many baby swings play musical tunes and have variable speeds. They are compact and portable, can recline to different positions and often have detachable toys.

Baby walkers:

There has been a lot of controversy around the use of walkers. The old type of walker that can topple over is no longer manufactured. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is informing consumers of the availability of a new generation of safer baby walkers. These new walkers have features that will reduce the stair-fall injuries associated with traditional baby walkers.

There are stationary and wheeled walkers available. If consumers want a wheeled walker, they should buy one that has new safety features to help prevent falls down stairs.

Another alternative is the stationary activity center, which does not have wheels. Whichever new product they choose, consumers should follow these safety tips when using a baby walker or an activity center:

  • Close the door or gate at the top of the stairs.
  • Keep children within view.
  • Keep children away from hot surfaces and containers.
  • Beware of dangling appliance cords.
  • Keep children away from toilets, swimming pools and other sources of water.

Baby bouncers:

There are two types of products that come to mind when you think of baby bouncers. There is one type that hangs from a doorway, formerly known as a “jolly jumper”. Perfect for doorway dancers and babies who love to kick! They sit in a high back padded seat and bounce like crazy. Maximum weight is 24 pounds.

The other is a laid back flat seat that bounces when baby moves. They often have nursery rhymes, twinkling lights and a detachable toy bar. Kids are strapped in and can really get moving in these. They are great exercise and fun for babies.
